Happy Halloween!

Last weekend we took the pups to the Alameda small dog park. Unbeknownst to us and our suddenly out of place girls, they were having their annual Halloween costume contest. Behold dogs under 30-lbs in all their costumed (and most likely completely humiliated) glory:

Bangs

I really, really want these bangs.

Mmmm...nix that. Actually, the whole look/vibe is what I really want.

Preparing for Halloween

Fall is quite possibly my favorite season. It brings some pretty rad things - cooler weather, leaves changing colors, gourds and pumpkins forever, Scorpio birthdays and, of course, there's Halloween. My birthday is the day after, which was always such a treat growing up; who wouldn't love to wake up next to a big bag full of candy every year on their birthday, guaranteed?

Moving on...this year we're going to a costume party on the 31st to celebrate a friend's birthday. Now, I don't necessarily love to dress up for Halloween, but if forced to, I'm game. We're going as roller girls. [I will neither confirm nor deny having seen and enjoyed "Whip It" and thereby scoring the source of this year's costume inspiration.]

Our friend was good enough to lend us a pair of skates, which I refuse to wear. My One&Only, on the other hand, was all over it:
Here's to hoping she doesn't kill herself.

Bacon

One of my best friends on Earth runs a boxed lunch delivery service called, "the lunch lady" and this girl loves her some bacon. So much so that in the past she has dedicated an entire newsletter to bacon. I kid you not.

I found this lovely poster on Etsy by Nicodemus Green and instantly thought: Yes! 30th Birthday present - Check!

But then I read that the particular version I wanted has been sold out since February. Dammit!

Calabaza...

...is Spanish for pumpkin. But I digress.

Ever since I was a wee lass, I would cut out and save pictures that for whatever reason spoke to me - be it re: design, fashion, style, political content, what have you. I've been saving them in two folders I've had for eons and go through them every blue moon. Back to this in a moment...

So I was trolling some of my favorite blogs and came across an old post from A Lovely Morning that mentioned this image:
which was posted on Snippet & Ink, who linked to the image from Oh Happy Day!, who found it on Happy Mundane, who cited its original source (Sang An for the October 2008 issue of Martha Stewart).

Now what put the goofy smile on my face was that...yup, you guessed it...I had clipped that image from that issue of Martha last year.
Way cool.

Unbelievable

A good friend wrote this amazing piece for Slate magazine. It exposes the egregious arrests of thousands in New York based on a law held unconstitutional over 26-years ago.

Please (pretty please) read it!

Must Have Fried Green Tomatoes

So during more normal time at work spent doing all things but work, I landed on Vegan Yum Yum. The first post I saw was for fried green tomatoes. Now mind you, I've never had the distinct pleasure of enjoying a fried green tomato, but this totally made me want one. Like real bad. Like right now. At this very moment.

Side note: I'm incapable of thinking or saying fried green tomato without picturing the movie.

I saw it in the movie theater. In 1991. Oh yeah.

Hmmph

Umm....yeah. Not exactly what I looked like at 16 (i.e., effortlessly chic and put together). Not one f'ing bit. I'm 29 and still not even close.

Gah.

Alphabet Bags, I love you

It doesn’t get much more adorable than these sturdy bags. I bought one to bring my lunch and miscellaneous oversized items (read: magazines) that don’t fit too nicely into my normal purse. They've already made the round on the blogs, but I just couldn't resist. Behold, the letter K:

On my way to work (taken with a phone; forgive the grainy shot):

Happy (almost) 5th Anniversary!

We are two days shy of celebrating our fifth anniversary (!). Since it falls on a Tuesday this year, we decided to celebrate early with a super fancy pants dinner at Boulevard.

We started off with bubbles - delightful.

The food was delicious and we ended it with a bang. Desert: Huckleberry Tart with Cinnamon Crust (Fleur de Sel Caramel Ice Cream, Fresh Huckleberry Sauce, Crèeme De La Crèeme, and Knoll Farms Fig) and Gingersnap Ice Cream Sandwiches (Pumpkin Spiced Ice Cream, and Dark Mexican Chocolate Sauce) that they adorned with precious "Happy Anniversary" chocolate pieces, which I'm sure they stash in the back with dozens of others that read "Happy Birthday" or "Congratulations." I don't care; that was some good stuff.

To Shoot, or not to Shoot

Canon Rebel XTi – I had to pledge not to shop for 3-months (daily necessities notwithstanding) in order to get it.

Keen example of me being interested in something, going for it to a certain degree, and then finding myself stuck with no idea of what to do next.

Solutions? Buy a book. Ask a friend.

I went full force on our recent trip to Turkey and Greece. I made like I was Scarlet Johansson in Vicky Cristina Barcelona – I would carry the blasted camera around my neck no matter how geeky I felt. Some of my favorite shots:

Living in a hot dog

My sister used to have her family room painted in two different colors – one wall was brick red, the other mustard yellow. It was like watching television while trapped inside an Oscar Meyer wiener. For reals.

Red rooms (sans adjacent yellow walls) – now this is how it’s done:

Jumping right in...

Hi! After much procrastination and over thinking, I'm jumping right in. My name is Kristie and this is my very first post on my very first blog. I was wildly inspired by one of the coolest ladies I know, and so now here I am.

I’m so inspired by the content of random blogs out there and wanted to join in on the good fun. I’d like to share some things I like (or, sigh, pine for) and hope you like them too.

xoxoxo

Kristie

PS: I tried, and I mean, I really, really tried to find the source of the above image. But alas, to no avail (I tend to save images that I enjoy on my computer, but sort of left out where they're from - Doh.). If you know it so I can give some credit where credit’s due, please let me know!

PPS: update!!! Turns out the same good people that brought me my alphabet bag make the lovely HI postcard! Thank you to Lucas & Hayley for letting me know!
